This Toolstop Review on the DCS778 Dewalt 54V Mitre Saw is designed to show you the reasons why you should upgrade to this top of the range model. Features, specs and benefits of this Dewalt Mitre Saw are all discussed in detail. Is the Dewalt DCS778T2 the one for you?
All About the Dewalt DCS778T2
Built on the classic pull saw design, the DCS778 isn’t breaking any moulds when it comes to the world of mitre saws. It bevels 48º to the left. It mitres 50º left and right.
So, what’s the big deal with the DCS778; is it worth the upgrade?
With more and more sites moving to cordless only, coupled with the ability to literally work wherever you need to, DeWALT’s battery powered mitre saw is one of those tools that, when you weigh everything up, it’s hard to argue against owning one.
Buy the kit with two 54V XR FlexVolt batteries and charger, and you’ll be set up to work completely cordless. If you’re on a budget, opt for the body-only version, and save a bit of cash.
DCS778T2 Features
The saw takes standard 250mm diameter, 30mm bore blades which the brushless 54V motor will spin at 4300rpm. Once the blade is spinning, you’ll get the following cuts:
- Cutting Capacity at 90°/45° (W x H): 305×58 mm
- Cutting Capacity at 90°/90° (W x H): 305×85 mm
- Cutting Capacity at 90°/90° (W x H): 305×85 mm
- Cutting Capacity at 45°/90° (W x H): 215×85 mm
- Cutting Capacity at 45°/90° (W x H): 215×85 mm
- Cutting Capacity at 90°/45° (W x H): 305×58 mm
All of these are very healthy, and more than respectable for any mitre saw, let alone a cordless one!

DCS778 Dewalt 54V Mitre Saw - Is it the Mitre Saw for you?
The saw is mounted on a machined table, while the machined back fence features a left-hand slide with a measuring scale. Both provide you with great support while you’re cutting.
Any slide mitre saw lives or dies by the quality and stability of the slide rails. DeWALT consistently produces great slide mitre saws, and the DCS778T2 is no exception. The mechanism is compact, helping to keep the footprint of the saw down, while the internal sliding action allows for cuts up to 305mm wide.
Another vital feature for a top-quality mitre saw is how it helps you line up the cut. We’ve seen the XPS Shadow Line for a while, and it’s great to see it on this cordless saw. You can turn it on or off, and it provides fast, accurate alignment of the blade while lighting up your workspace.
In addition to these features, DeWALT has built in a new head lock function which allows it to be fixed. This makes it ideal for accurate trim work, but also makes it easy to transport the saw from the back of the van to wherever you need it to be.
Dust extraction is, of course, Dewalt’s AirLock system, which has proven itself to be designed for high-end tasks, keeping the dust where it should be – in the extractor. It’s worth pointing out that if you’re using the saw away from a corded dust extraction system, you should be wearing a face mask.
The DCS778 is available now and qualifies for Toolstop Finance.
