How to Change the Brushes on a Makita Cordless Drill
Follow these simple steps below to change the brushes on your cordless drill.
Step 1: Remove the Battery & Open the Housing
First things first, take the battery out of your cordless drill/driver. Identify where the brushes are located in your tool. If they’re serviceable, you’ll be able to open the housing up to expose them, ready for replacement.
Step 2: Unclip the Brushes
The brushes will be clipped in place. In our guide, using a Makita TD091D, the brushes were secured with a contact clip and a small spring. Ease off the clip, then use your small screwdriver to ease off the spring.
Step 3: Remove and replace the Brushes
The brushes will now slide out from their housing, ready to be replaced by new brushes, per your tool’s manufacturer’s guidelines. Seat the brushes in their housing, refit the spring then refit the contact clip.
Step 4: Refit the Housing
Reverse step one, refitting the housing for the motor/brushes.
Step 5: Get Back to Work!
You’re now back up and running again, so get back to work!
