All About the Makita MLS100
Mitre saws are ideal for when you’re cutting wood and need precision and accuracy, along with a robust stable base to work on. This is especially important for when you’re working with long workpieces such as skirting board. Obviously a mitre saw cuts mitres (angled cuts) and compound mitre saws also allow you to make bevel cuts.
The new Makita MLS100 mitre saw does both because it’s a compound mitre saw, and it does both very well.
Features of the Makita MLS100 Electric Mitre Saw
We got our hands on one and we want to share with you our impressions of it; we reckon it should be on your mitre saw short-list… If you click here you’ll see our best price and a full list of the saw’s specs.
First up, the MLS100 packs a powerful 1500W motor, spinning the supplied 40 tooth carbide tipped blade at 4200rpm. This means it’ll zip through your workpiece with ease. It’ll also stop smartly when you release the trigger thanks to Makita’s electronic brake. Blade changes are quick and easy thanks to the shaft lock.
Adjusting the angle of the mitre cut you wish to make is a pleasure on the MLS100. Makita has included along the edge of the tough and stable aluminium base positive stops at 15°, 22.5°, 30°, 45°. You can also, by unscrewing the locking nut, fine tune the angle of mitre you want to cut, locking it off again once you’re happy.
The carry handle, when in the locked position, allows you to transport the saw around the jobsite, or your workshops, and a simple pull of a pin releases it, ready for you to make your cuts.
Beveling the MLS100 is easy too. Releasing the large locking wheel at the rear of the saw means you can now make mitre cuts of up to 45° to the left and 52º to the right.
